Water Colour Pencils Technique

Each month our team chooses a different technique to feature and this month we will be showcasing the Water Colour Pencil Techniques.
There’s a lot of different ways to use our Stampin’Up! Water Colour Pencils and I’ve chosen to use them on traditional water colour paper. You can vary the shade depending on how much pencil you apply, hence they are fantastic for shading as well as adding lots of different colours to your stamped or die cut images.
Here’s a few tips to keep in mind:
- Don’t over sharpen your pencils
- You can mix colours together, there’s no rules! Get creative and have a play
- The top of the water painters unscrew in the opposite of normal direction.

I used the brand new Dainty Delight Bundle for my card, this was available for pre-order as I was able to attend the Sydney Stampin’ Up! OnStage convention.
Step 1Stamp the desired images using Sahara Sand Ink on our Fluid 100 water colour paper.
When I started designing the card I had no idea what the finished product would be like so I stamped all the images that I thought I may use.
Step 2I used both packs of our water colour pencils and coloured all the images, varying the shading, mixing colours and a touch of colour on the stems.
The colour pencils in the photo are the ones I used.
Step 3I used the finest of the water painters to start blending my colours together. You can control the flow by blotting the painter, I didn’t have it too wet.
Some areas such as the stems, I kept dry, no water added at all and others I went over very lightly to soften the look
Step 4All of the coloured images were die cut.

Step 5For the background, I used the Fluid 100 water colour paper. The cloud was die cut and just held in place as a mask.
I applied Balmy Blue colour pencil directly to the widest water painter then brushed this over the paper adding more colour to the brush as needed.
I found it stained the brush a little but that’s ok. I washed it out and then repeated the process with the Granny Apple Green pencil for the lower part of the card front. I just played until I was happy with the result.
Step 6I die cut an image and added a splash of colour to it too, then arranged the rest of my die cuts on the card front.
The flowers were too pretty to cover up, so I didn’t overlap them much nor add ribbon or a large greeting.
The greeting is from the same stamp set and I hand cut it to show as much of the pretty flowers as possible. The greeting and sun are popped up on dimensionals.

Stamping with aMac October 2022 Craft Retreat
We had our very first three night retreat!
There was a choice of two or three nights and my crafters loved having an extra day night and day to enjoy!
Thanks so much to all of the wonderful crafters who were able to join us! We had a very creative and fun filled event where we shared ideas, hugs, fun, food, drinks and laughter.
To be honest, I’m exhausted but it was worth every minute to create a place for friends to connect and forget about the other ‘stuff’ that we have happening in life.
We had great weather other than the hail storm… but thank God no cars were damaged!
This was a very much needed, and welcome, weekend of fun for many at beautiful Bornhoffen PCYC in the Gold Coast hinterland.

This Retreat we fundraised for You Have a Friend.
This is a local charity who are 100% not for profit, supporting the homeless, marginalised and single parents/children in the Coolangatta/Tweed district.
We raised an amazing total of $800
The prizes were donated by Stampin’ Up!, Jackie McGee, Jan Howly, Belinda Seaton, Robyn Cavuoto, Marnie P and myself.
Apologies if I missed someone and thank you so much to all of the contributors of the prizes!
There were so many prizes to choose from!!!
I also collected donation cards which I’ll drop of to their Op Shop and they can either donate them or sell them to raise more funds.
My amazing Dazzling Divas Team member Jan Howley, generously created some projects to add to the fundraiser and raised $164, which is included in the tally above.
