Gilded Leafing Technique
April 1, 2023 /Welcome to our Totally Techniques Blog Hop for March 2023.
I’m Angela McFarlane an Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator from Gold Coast, Australia.
This will be my last Blog Hop with the Totally Techniques Team, I’ve had the pleasure of being a guest ‘Hopper’ for the last 12 months, thanks for the opportunity to share with you.
Each month our team chooses a different technique to feature and this month we will be showcasing the various Gilded Leafing Techniques.
At the bottom of my blog please ‘hop along’ to see all the different ideas our talented team have to share with you.
The Gilded Leafing is a wonderful product and can be used in so many different ways.
I created this card using the beautiful Natures Harvest Bundle which is available in Annual Catalogue.
I wanted the Gilded Leafing to be the hero on this card. I didn’t add any extra bling as the Gold was enough.
I kept the colour palate simple and used Basic White for the card base then layered it with Pool Party, the Gilded Leafing frame and more Basic White.
It was easier to demonstrate my techniques via video.
Please watch and enjoy!

I hope you’ve enjoyed my project and hopefully learnt something new.

Stamping with aMac March 2023 Craft Retreat
March 20, 2023 /We just had our second three night retreat!
Thanks so much to all of the fabulous crafters who were able to join us! We had a very creative and fun filled event where we shared ideas, hugs, fun, food, drinks and laughter.
Here’s what we got up to…
There’s always lots to do behind the scenes to make the weekend special for my crafters.
Here’s a few photos of our place cards, goodie bag decorations and pillow gift decorations (which I like to spoil my attendees with).
It’s lovely to know that it’s very much appreciated too.

Everyone loves the lush green fields and the beauty of the location. It’s so pretty to look at and soothing for the soul.
In the early morning, I love taking a bit of time out to enjoy a quiet coffee, listening to the birds and observing the wildlife.
The mist over the valley is so pretty too.

Our Crafters are extremely generous and everyone who comes and stays will enjoy the improvements we’ve contributed to.
This is thanks to our very generous raffles ticket purchases and additional donations after the raffle was drawn! Thank you to all of you who contributed extra raffle prizes too! Thanks Jackie, Robyn, Karen, Toni and myself.
Since we’ve been coming to Bornhoffen, our Crafting Retreats have contributed to new fly/security screens for Hobwee Hall, which we use, and thanks to a very generous donation from Belinda S, who solely contributed new fly/security screens for all of the doors on the hall!
This has made our stay so much more comfortable and pleasant!
Thank you so much Belinda!
Bornhoffen has put up a plaque in appreciation of our fund-raising efforts.
What a lovely group of crafters we had at our retreat!
So many different crafts and so much talent. I love that everyone was willing to share ideas and other bits and pieces.
There was lots of catching up, laughter, jokes, silliness, a few drinks shared and even a few tears reminiscing about our friend Tina who is sadly no longer with us. We really miss your talent, big smile and laughter. RIP 💔 🫶
We have lots of card makers and scrap bookers who attend but ALL types of crafters are welcome to join us!

Also extra thanks to Robyn for carting a heap of stuff for me to the venue and for helping me set up! You save me so much time and it’s lovely having some crafty company while prepping for retreat!
Thank you so much for spoiling me!!!
I love the special cards I received and the thoughtful gifts. Honestly, I don’t expect any gifts but I am grateful for your kindness.
Thank you so much Robyn, Sophia, Daphne and Helen xox 😘
I would like to say big THANK YOU to everyone from the bottom of my heart; for coming, for your help and co-operation over the weekend.
I’ve had lots of feedback saying that this was of one the best retreats yet!
It was a truly lovely weekend and I want to thank you all for your continuing support. Even the weather was kind to us other than the down pour at the very end!
I look forward to start planning for the next one soon!

Masking Technique
February 25, 2023 /Welcome to our Totally Techniques Blog Hop for February 2023. I’m Angela McFarlane an Independent Stampin’Up! Demonstator from Gold Coast, Australia.
Each month our team chooses a different technique to feature and this month we will be showcasing various Masking Techniques.
At the bottom of my blog please ‘hop along’ to see all the different ideas our talented team have to share with you.
The Masking technique can be applied in lots of different ways.
I created this card using the brand-new Seaside Bay Bundle which is currently available in the new January – April Mini Catalogue.
I mostly used the ripping technique using Stampin’Up! Masking paper but I also die cut a few clouds to use them as a reverse mask.
The whole background of the focal layer of the card is created by masking.
Step 1I measured a piece of masking paper so that it was bigger than my card layer.
Given the card is landscape, I tore the piece of masking paper in the same orientation to create a sand/ sea and sky effect.
Step 2I attached the bottom part of the masking paper to card layer as well as some clouds that were die cut out of the masking paper.
I then used balmy blue ink and the blending brush to get the desired saturation of colour.
Step 3After removing the masks, I decided that it needed some wave detail on the blue.
I reattached the bottom/sand and a cloud mask then attached an additional mask which I tore by hand in a wave shape.
Then I added some Tahitan Tide ink for contrast and repositioned it a few times to get the wave look I was happy with.
Step 4I removed the bottom masks and carefully attached the top/sky mask to cover what I had just blended.
I was able to line up the tear accurately covering all the blue, as the mask was from the original piece of masking paper.
I used Sahara Sand ink to blend the bottom layer of the card.
Step 5After blending with Sahara Sand, I stamped the sand and shells keeping the mask in place to avoid stamping on the blue layer.
As you can see on the 2nd image, even experienced crafters make mistakes! The Tahitian Tide ink was too dark so I tried to lighten it by adding water using an aqua painter… unfortunately that didn’t work. I really liked the rest of the card, so I decided to save it rather than start again.
This is to show you there is usually a fix to any crafting mishap 😊
Step 6I die cut another cloud using the ‘Give it a Whirl’ dies and decided to add some colour and texture to the cloud. ‘Every cloud has a silver lining,’ right?
I used some silver embossing paste making it textured on purpose, this need some time to dry properly as it was pretty thick. I did try to use the heat gun to speed it up, but wouldn’t recommend that as it started to bubble a bit too much.
Step 7When the silver cloud was dry, I attached it with dimensionals.
I then stamped the crab using Soft Suede ink, and cut out a few other bits and pieces from the Seaside Bay Bundle to complete the card.
I used the masks from the sand to decorate the insert for the card and stamped a few images along the bottom.
Step 8I found the top part of the silver clam shell too big for the card, given the added silver cloud covering up my mistake… so, I trimmed it down, repositioning it in the original die.
The clouds were out of balance with the additional silver one, so I added another partial die cut cloud to the top side of the card.
Step 9Of course you can’t send a naked envelope, so it dressed it up a little using the cloud masks previously used on the card.
No greeting was used intentionally, as the card had plenty of detail and it’s always handy to have a blank card ready for any occasion.
I hope you’ve enjoyed my project and hopefully learnt something new. Feel free to contact me with any questions.
